Trotz der internationalen Bedeutung dieses Status sind dessen Inhalte, Potenziale und Netzwerke in der Stadtgesellschaft, in der Designbranche sowie im internationalen Austausch bislang nur eingeschränkt sichtbar. Zudem fehlt eine koordinierte programmatische Nutzung des Titels als strategisches Instrument für Stadtentwicklung, internationale Zusammenarbeit und kreativwirtschaftliche Profilbildung. Gegenstand des Auftrags ist daher die Erstellung eines Konzeptes für ein geeignetes Maßnahmenpaket sowie dessen Umsetzung, um insbesondere die Sichtbarkeit Berlins als UNESCO City of Design lokal, national und international zu erhöhen, Akteur:innen der Berliner Designlandschaft zu aktivieren und zu vernetzen, den Austausch mit anderen UNESCO Cities of Design zu fördern und den UNESCO-Titel als strategische Ressource für die Stadt zu positionieren.
